What a DOC file represents
DOC is a legacy Word format from an earlier generation of office workflows. Many files created years ago were saved in DOC and have continued to move through organizations without ever being modernized.
Because DOC belongs to an older format family, it may behave less predictably in current environments than a modern DOCX file. That is especially true in documents with old templates, unusual fonts, embedded objects, or fragile layout decisions.

Why DOC files still show up
